Grand Lodge of IdahoA.F. & A.M.How to Join

Begin with your own decision
Membership begins with your decision to ask. A Mason can provide a Petition for the Degrees of Masonry, but the choice to seek membership must be yours.
Before seeking membership, ask yourself whether you are prepared to enter the “gentle craft of Masonry.” Do you reflect on the nature of your existence and your obligations to God, your family and yourself?
If ethical and moral questions hold little interest for you, you may find little benefit in the teachings of the Craft. If you seek a more meaningful life through charity and fellowship, Freemasonry has much to offer.

We want you to understand what we believe, how we act and what we do. If you choose to become a Mason, we hope you will be proud to call us your Brothers and eager to participate in our work. Seek a petition because you have formed a favorable impression of the fraternity. Ask yourself: Are you ready to become a better man?
Qualifications for membership
- Be a man who comes of his own free will.
- Believe in a Supreme Being, with that belief left to the candidate’s interpretation.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be of good moral character and reputation.
- Be able to provide character references, as well as one or two references from current Masons.
- Have resided within the jurisdiction for at least six months.
Take the next steps
Ask a Mason
Asking about membership is the first step. Speak with a Mason about the fraternity and your interest in joining.
Connect with a local lodge
Lodges often gather for a meal before meetings. Contact the lodge to confirm meal times and visitor arrangements. Members can answer your questions and help you learn more.
To find a lodge near you, use Find a Lodge for locations, meeting information and local contacts.
Request a petition
When you are ready, ask a Mason for a petition for membership. Your local lodge can explain how to complete it and what happens next.
