Grand Master’s Biography

Rick L. Holloway

Rick Holloway was born on the Oregon coast as a twin with an older brother and sister.  The family moved to California and then relocated to Idaho in 1966.  He was raised on a farm in New Plymouth, milking cows by hand and helping on the 40 acre farm.  The family moved to Middleton in 1970 where he continued working on the home farm plus working for other farmers in the Middleton area and subsequently graduated from Middleton High School in 1977, lettering in football, basketball, and track.

He received a four year scholarship through the Navy ROTC program to attend the University of Idaho but, while he was excited about joining the Navy, some unfortunate events derailed those aspirations and he returned to Caldwell and trained race horses for several years.  His family was involved in skilled nursing facility operations and he subsequently left ranch work in January 1986 to go to Idaho State University for a degree in Health Care Administration.

Rick’s education and work with horses coincided when he worked at the Pocatello race track in 1987 selling mutual tickets.  A man came up to his window with a square and compasses on his lapel and Rick asked him how someone can join the lodge.  A few months later, Rick took his first degree in Keystone Lodge #81.

Unfortunately, his coach was busy and he ended up graduating from Idaho State and moving to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota Master of Hospital Administration program.  He graduated with his MHA in 1990.  It wasn’t until a chance meeting with Ted Bahr and Kurt Reuter in 1993 that Rick got back into Masonry, and he was passed and raised in Oriental #60 in February and March of 1993, with the raising occurring only one week following a bone marrow harvest.

Rick was Worshipful Master of Oriental #60 in 1998 and joined Scottish Rite that year as well.  He was Associate Bethel Guardian for Bethel #8 in Caldwell in 1999 and continued serving on the council for several years.  He served as Associate Grand Guardian for Idaho Job’s Daughters in 2006-2007 and was elected into the Supreme Guardian Council line, serving as Associate Supreme Guardian in 2009-2010.  He is only the second Mason from Idaho to ever serve in that capacity, with the first being Edward Way, who has the distinction of being the first Associate Grand Guardian of Idaho Job’s Daughters and Associate Supreme Guardian in 1939.

Rick has been actively involved in Scottish Rite and is currently 32° KCCH.  He was Potentate of El Korah Shrine in Boise in 2020 and served on the Portland Shrine Hospital Board of Governors beginning in 2016 and will reach 9 years of service in December 2024.  He also served the Board as Chairman in 2021-2022.

He was appointed Grand Pursuivant for the Idaho Grand Lodge by MWPGM John Warner in 2015 and has served in all offices up the line since then with the exception of a partial year as Grand Marshal and a partial year as Junior Grand Deacon.

Rick’s hobbies include martial arts (5th degree black belt in taekwon do), flying (flown 181 missions for Angel Flight West), making corn dogs for the veterans and staff at the vets home as well as at the Caldwell Night Rodeo for Bethel #8), and spending as much time as possible with his wife and family.

Rick is married to Jackie Holloway, who is the Supreme Queen for Daughters of the Nile from June 2024 to June 2025. Together, they have four children: Lisa, Jacob, Ashley, and Kortney.  All three of their daughters are Past Honored Queens of Job’s Daughters.  He is a long time health care administrator and is currently the Administrator of the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise, focusing on the highest quality of care and quality of life for our veterans as well as maintaining a supportive, healthy environment for our staff.
