Kevin DeWall

I was born in northern Utah, the second oldest of 4 children. My family moved to Pocatello, Idaho when I was 10 years old. My father owned a construction company and built custom homes and commercial buildings and specialized in restoration of historic buildings. I graduated from Highland High School in 1973.
I enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974 and qualified as a nuclear weapons technician. I later became a crew chief and then an instructor at the Air Force nuclear weapons training school. I was honorably discharged from active duty in 1979.
I attended Idaho State University from 1979 to 1983 and graduated with a BS in General Engineering. Upon graduation I was immediately hired as a mechanical engineer at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and continued my education taking night classes. I graduated from Idaho State University in 1987 with an MS in Nuclear Science and Engineering.
I retired from the INL in 2017 as a Distinguished Research Engineer with over 33 years of experience in nuclear power plant equipment design basis and separate effects testing and analysis. I was the INL Engineering Subject Matter Expert for valves, actuators and power-operated valve assemblies. I am currently an Adjunct Nuclear Engineering Professor, College of Science and Engineering, at Idaho State University, where I provide specialized, high level engineering instruction to US Nuclear Regulatory Commission personnel and both national and international nuclear power plant engineers.
I am a Registered Professional Engineer in Idaho and hold 2 US Patents. I have published 34 referred papers, 14 formal research reports and 4 international journal articles. I remain active in my profession through membership on US and international Code and Standards writing committees. I am frequently contracted to provide technical presentations at nuclear industry users group meetings.
I joined Freemasonry in Pocatello Idaho and received my degrees in Portneuf Lodge #18 AF & AM of Idaho. I was raised to master mason in 2014. I received my full Worshipful Master Certificate in October 2023 and was elected Worshipful Master of Portneuf Lodge #18 for 2024 and again in 2025. In September 2025, MWGM Randy King appointed me as Grand Sword Bearer. Now serving as the Junior Grand Steward. I am a member of Pocatello Valley Scottish Rite, where I am a 32° KCCH. I am a Scottish Rite, Supreme Grand Commander’s Fellow.
My wife Cheri and I have been married 51 years, we have been singing together for 55 years. We have 4 married children, Mark of Idaho Falls ID, Micky of Pocatello ID, Robert of Pocatello ID and Jennifer of Idaho Falls ID. We have 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. I am active in my church, and I have served as president, treasurer, trustee and worship team musician. I am active in my community, supporting Portneuf Valley Interfaith and NAACP. I have volunteered with the Portneuf Valley Soccer Club, coaching young players and even volunteered to coach high school junior varsity for a season.
